Syllabus

The required textbook is Proofs and Fundamentals, by Ethan Bloch. We'll cover chapters 3, 4, 5, 6, and some topics from chapters 7, 8, 9. (Chapters 1 and 2 are background, and they will be referred to as needed.)

You can get the textbook at the UGA Bookstore, Off Campus Bookstore (548-9376), Follett Textbook Exchange (369-7399), and Baxter Street Bookstore (549-3081).

Summary of topics:

Sets, functions, relations, infinite and finite sets. Additional topics from geometry, algebra, combinatorics, and number theory.

Course prerequisites:

Second semester calculus: MATH 2210 or MATH 2310H or MATH 2410H.

Exams, homework, and grading

There will be three one-hour exams and a final exam. Homework will be due at least once a week, and it will be graded. Late homework will not be accepted. Each of the hour exams will count 20% of the grade, homework will count 20%, and the final exam will count 20%.
