Grading:
Quizzes - There will be a short (about 5 minutes) in-class quiz at the
begining of every class. It will cover the homework that was assigned 2 days
previously. For example, if we cover section 2.1 on Monday, there would be a
quiz over that material on Friday. The quiz will consist of one to three problems
taken directly from the homework. In fact, you may use your homework during
the quiz, but NOT your text book or notes. This is to encourage you to do all
of the homework, and make sure you don't fall behind. The points that each quiz
is worth will vary on the number of questions and their difficulty. However
quizzes will count for a total of 15% of your grade. NO LATE QUIZZES for any
reason whatsoever. Your two lowest quiz scores will be dropped. If you know
you will miss class because of participation in a University authorized event
then you need to notify me in advance so you can take the quiz early.
Evaluation Opportunity - There will be three 50 minute Evaluation Opportunities, at the dates listed above. These will cover only the sections indicated in class. Each one will be worth 20% of your grade.
Final - The final exam will be comprehensive, and worth 25% of your grade. If you score better on the final than one of your 50 minute exams, your lowest exam score will be replaced with the percentage you got on the final.
Extra Credit - After each quiz, I will post the solutions online. If you are the first person to notify me of a mistake in the online solutions, you will receive a bonus point for each mistake. These points will be added to your quiz total.
Cell Phone/Pager Policy: All cell phones and pagers must be turned off. Any cell phone or pager that rings during class will be taken away and not returned until the end of the following class.
Academic Honesty: We will follow the University academic honesty policy. It can be found online at http://www.uga.edu/ovpi/academic_honesty/culture_honesty.htm
