Course Description/Objective

The Differential Calculus Lab is geared towards supplementing Differential Calculus.  Maple assignments and Maple related quizzes will be given with the intent of abetting the learning process.

Materials

  1. Bring a floppy disk or a flash card.  DO NOT save work on the desktop as this can put you in direct violation of the University’s Academic Honesty Policies.
  2. Projects are located at http://www.math.uga.edu/calclab2200

Format

  1. Projects should be started on a separate and blank Maple document.  Do not start the project in the project maple file.  Don’t waste paper unnecessarily!  Projects should have your name, the project name, and the class name on top.  Also number the sections and/or problems you are working on, according to how they’re given in the project.  Simply copy the question, paste it, then answer accordingly.  Do not paste any of the preamble material.  Projects must be turned in on paper.  Projects will not be accepted via e-mail.  This means you need to ensure you have the project done and a hardcopy made before the due date.  This will avoid last-minute printer problems.
  2. Staple your projects!  Do not epoxy, duct tape, rope tie, paper clip, etc. your projects together.  Unstapled projects will be burned in my wood stove accordingly!

Grades

Grading will based on the average of projects and quizzes

A: 100-90     B: 89-80     C: 79-70     D: 69-60      F: 59-0

Late Work

All projects must be turned in on time.  For most projects, you will have 2-3 weeks in which to complete them.  So excuses like “the printer wouldn’t print” won’t fly.  It is your responsibility to complete the projects on time!  If you wait ‘til the last minute to work on your project and the printer peters out, then it is your fault for procrastinating!

Attendance

You are responsible for all material covered in class.  While attendance is not enforced, it is strongly encouraged.

Academic Honesty

Academic Honesty is very important to this university and it should be to all of us.  The value of your degree that you are working towards is affected by all of us maintaining honesty in our academic work.  Please don’t put your education at risk by turning in someone else’s work or cheating in any way, shape, or form.  You won’t learn the material, and by the policy, you must be reported.  This is an involved ordeal that neither of us wants to go through.  The University’s Academic Honesty Policy can be viewed at http://www.uga.edu/ovpi/academic_honesty/academic_honesty.htm.

Academic Honesty Statement

The Academic Honesty Statement must be printed out with each project and SIGNED using a pen.  I will cut you some slack the first time you forget to sign it, but thereafter, I will grade your project as a ZERO if you fail to sign the Academic Honesty Statement.

Group Work

You may work in groups on the projects, but the final write-ups must reflect your own work.

Withdrawal Information

If you withdrawal from the lab, then you must withdrawal from the regular course.
