Week 1:
Tuesday, January 11: first day of class
Due Thursday, January 13: 1) Read the information about MATH
5030 on the course website. You are responsible for knowing the policies and
expectations of the course, including the grading policy. Please note that the
cutoff for an A is 4.7 out of 5 points. MATH 7030
students only: begin to brainstorm ideas for your project.
2) Read Section 8.1 and do practice problems 1 – 5 (but don't hand these
in). Check the answers to the practice problems.
3) Do (to be handed in next Tuesday): problems 1 and 2 on page 326.
Week 2:
Due Tuesday, January 18: Do the rest of the practice problems for section 8.1 (but don't hand them in) and check the answers. Hand in: problems 1, 2, and 6 on page 326.
MATH 7030 students only: begin to brainstorm ideas for your project.
Due Thursday, January 20: Read section 8.2 through page 331 and do practice problems 1 - 7. Check the answers to the practice problems. Do (to be handed in next Tuesday): problems 2 and 6 on pages 340, 342.
