Thursday, August 17: first day of class
Week 1:
Due Tuesday, August 22 : Read about all the course policies, including the grading scale and policy. Read chapter 2 through page 35 of section 2.3. Do (but don't hand in) all the practice problems for section 2.2, do practice problems 1 - 4 for section 2.3 and check your answers to the practice problems. Do but don't hand in: problem 3 on page 30 and problems 1, 2 on page 43. Hand in: problems 1 and 2 on page 30 and problems 3 b, d and 4 on page 44.
MATH 7020 students only: begin to brainstorm ideas for your project.
Tuesday's "Lesson Study" lesson on decimals on number lines.

Week 2:
Due Tuesday, August 29 : Read the rest of section 2.3 as well as sections 2.4 and 2.5. Do (but don't hand in) all the practice problems for those sections and check your answers. Do but don't hand in: problems 10, 11 on page 45, problems 3, 5, 12, and 13 on pages 51, 52. Hand in: problems 1 and 2 from the decimal misconceptions handout (but please do not write your answers on the handout) and problems 4 and 11 on pages 51, 52.
Due Thursday, September 31 : Read section 3.1 and do the practice problems. Check your answers to them too. Also do but don't hand in: problems 2 and 3 on page 56. Hand in: problem 3 on page 65, but answer this problem the way you really think about it, rather than necessarily writing what you think I might want you to write. As long as it's clear you have put thought into it, you will get the full 5 points. (We will add the score to the next assignment you hand in.)
