Week 5:

Due Monday, September 18: Do but don't hand in: problems 1 and 2 on page 606.

Due Wednesday, September 20: Read section 13.3 and do the practice problems. Hand in: Solving Equations Versus Simplifying Expressions and also hand in: carry out an analysis like we did in class on Monday to determine the formula for the geometric sequence 6, 3, 3/2, 3/4, 3/8, ... and to explain why your formula is valid.

Due Friday, September 22: Read section 13.4 and do the practice problems. Do but don't hand in: problems 6, 8, 13, 14 on pages 617, 618. Hand in: problem 1 on page 625, but replace part b with this: Find a formula for the sum of the first N terms of the arithmetic series 1 + 5 + 9 + 13 + ... and explain why your formula is valid.

Week 6:

Due Monday, September 25: Do but don't hand in: problem 15 on page 618. Hand in: problems 6 and 10 on page 626.

Due Wednesday, September 27: Read section 13.5 and do the practice problems. Do but don't hand in: problems 4 and 6 on page 638.

Due Friday, September 29: QUIZ on sections 13.3 and 13.4. Quiz problems will be similar to homework problems (including/especially practice problems and other "don't hand in" problems) and class activity problems, however I won't ask about activity 13Q (sums of squares).
