Week 5:

Due Tuesday, February 7 : Read section 8.7 and do the practice problems. You might enjoy playing with the computer models of the Platonic solids at http://www.mathsisfun.com/platonic_solids.html

Due Thursday, February 9 : Read section 9.1 and do the practice problems. Hand in: problem 11 on page 367, problem 4 on page 371, problem 4 on page 381, problem 7 on page 391 and the "extra" problem posted below. Math 7030 students only: project proposals due (a brief description of what you plan to do).

"Extra" problem: (a) On graph paper, draw x- and y- axes and plot the following points,
labeling them A, B, C, and D: (3, 4), (-1, 4), (-3, -5), (2, -3). Plot the locations of these points after they have been rotated 90 degrees clockwise about the origin, labeling the rotated points A', B', C', and D'. (b)
If (a, b) is a point in a coordinate plane, what will its location be after it has been rotated 90 degrees clockwise about the origin? Explain your answer.

Week 6:

Due Tuesday, February 14 : Read section 9.2 and do the practice problems.
