Week 5:

Due Tuesday, September 18: Read section 4.1 and do the practice problems (and check answers). Hand in: (typed, as usual, except for pictures/equations/number lines etc.) problems 1c; 8a, b; 9 a, b, c, d (showing all details - be sure to read the section and do the practice problems first) on pages 137, 138.

Due Thursday, September 20: Read section 4.3 and do practice problems 1 - 6 (and check your answers). Hand in: (typed, as usual, except for pictures/equations/number lines etc.) Problem 1 on page 160. Read your answer and ask yourself if someone who is confused about the material would understand it and learn from it. Then revise your answer to make it clearer.

Week 6:

Due Tuesday, September 25: TEST on chapters 2 and 3 and section 4.1. Most problems will be similar to assigned practice problems or problems or activity problems we did in class. Expect some problems to be a little different and to ask you to pull ideas together or take a bigger picture view. I will be looking for clear and thorough explanations! Be sure you have done all the practice problems, checked your answers, and really thought through the explanations so that you can explain them clearly to someone else in your own words.

Due Thursday, September 27: Do the rest of the practice problems in section 4.3. Read section 4.4 and do the practice problems. Hand in: (typed, as usual, except for pictures/equations/number lines etc.) Problems 12 and 19 on pages 161, 162.
