Week 5:

Due Monday, February 4 : MATH 7030 students only: Extra assignment 1 is due.

Due Wednesday, Feb 6 : Read section 8.5 and do the practice problems. Also do but don't hand in: problems 1 a,b , 2 a,b , 4 a,b,c on pages 442, 443. Hand in (please type your answers, except for pictures, equations, etc.): Problem 2 a,b,c and problem 3 on pages 491, 492 and problems 3 and 6 a, b pages 442, 443. For problem 3, your construction should not use any "eyeballing" or any right angle implements. If you need a right angle, you must construct it with the aid of your compass.

Due Friday, Feb 8 :

Week 6:

Due Monday, Feb 11 : Read section 9.4 to page 499 and do practice problems 1 - 5.

Due Wednesday, Feb 13 : Read the rest of section 9.4 and do the rest of the practice problems of section 9.4. Hand in (please type your answers, except for pictures, equations, etc.): Problem 5 on pages 509, 510 and also explain how to relate a proportion to the "scale factor" and "relative sizes" methods; and problems 9, 10 on pages 511, 512.

Due Friday, Feb 15 : QUIZ on angle problems (like those from the handout on Jan 23), triangle congruence criteria (section 9.3), and constructions with straightedge and compass (section 8.5 and the other constructions we did in class).
