2) Read the information about MATH 5003 on the course website.
You are responsible for knowing the policies and expectations of the course,
including the attendance policies and the grading policies.
3) Read section 5.5 on fraction division.
MATH 7003 students only: begin to brainstorm ideas for your project.
Week 2:
Due Monday, August 25: Do (but don't hand in) the exercises for section 5.5 on pages 368 - 370. Check the answers on pages 370 - 373. Hand in problem 2 on pages 374 of the text (volume 1). (d) should read: Compare and contrast your answers to parts (b) and (c).
Due Wednesday, August 27: Write a "how many in one group" story problem for 3/4 divided by 2/3. Use your story problem to help you explain why it makes sense to calculate 3/4 divided by 2/3 by "inverting and multiplying", in other words by calculating 3/4 times 3/2. Explain how to see the process of multiplying by 3/2 in the context of your story problem.
