Week 3:

Monday, September 1: no class

Due Wednesday, September 3: Read section 5.6 and do (but don't hand in) the exercises at the end (check the answers in the answer section). Hand in problem 5 on page 374 of the text.

Week 4:

Due Monday, September 8: Read section 5.7, not including the material on the Consumer Price Index (pages 388 - 391) and do exercises 1, 2, 3 at the end of the section (p. 391, 392). Hand in: solve problem 2 on page 395 in two different ways.

Due Wednesday, September 10: Hand in the following problem: A special potion is made by mixing 2/3 of a cup of boomslang skin extract with 1 1/4 cups liquified bicorn horn. You need exactly 3 cups of the potion. The ingredients are expensive so you want to make the exact right amount. How much boomslang skin extract and how much liquified bicorn horn will you need? Solve this problem in an elementary way by using logical reasoning about multiplication and division. MATH 7003 (graduate credit) students only: proposals for projects are due.
