Make-up Tests

All tests are given in one of the computer labs - 324 or 308 in Boyd Grad Studies. The room number is indicated when you choose a time to take the test. Note that all tests are given outside of class. You must submit a photo ID when you come to take a test. The ID will be returned when you leave. Tests begin promptly at the beginning of the time they are scheduled. If you show up late for a test, you will lose the time on your test.

Signups for a test will begin roughly two days before the test begins for the first testing group.

JExam has its own built-in calculator which allows you to copy and paste results from the calculator into an answer box. Students will be allowed to bring in their own TI-30 hand held calculator if they wish. Such calculators should not be within a case and should have no paper or notes attached.

All cell phones must be turned off and put in the bins with any other personal items.

Each test will have 12 questions. You will have two tries on every question. You should work the entire test before you submit it for the first time. After the first submission, only the questions that are not completely correct will appear. You should work all these questions before your final submission. After your second submission, you can see the grade on your test. You will be able to view your entire test only after the test is over for the entire course. At this time, you can view your test online through JExam Student. Questions (or parts of questions) that are correct after the first sumbission will be given full credit. Questions (or parts of questions) that are correct only after the second submission will be given 75%. If you have any questions about the grading of a question on your test, you should check with your instructor.

Scratch paper will be provided by the lab. Hand in your scratch paper when you complete the exam. After the exam is over for everyone in the course, your instructor will receive your scratch paper. If you believe that the computer graded a question incorrectly, you may bring this to the attention of your instructor. If it is clear from your scratch work that you correctly answered the question, but made a typographical error in entering your answer on the computer, the instructor, may, at his or her discretion, give you credit for the problem. Under no other circumstances will your instructor award credit for scratchwork. The instructor may also award credit in the rare instance that you entered the answer correctly on Jexam but the computer graded it incorrectly.

In certain circumstances you may need to take a make-up test. You should first get a permission slip from your instructor, and then contact Sam Bennett to arrange for a time to take the make-up test. Makeup tests should be taken as close to the actual test as possible.

Online Homework

There will be online homework assignments for Math 1113. In general, there will be two assignments for each of the six tests. Each homework assignment will contain 10 questions and cover specific sections in the book. The online homework will count 5% of your final grade. The homework is there to help you learn the material in the course. You are free to use the book, use your class notes, work with a friend or use any other material when working on homework. Each homework assignment has a deadline. The deadline depends on your Testing Group. There are four testing groups this semester. Your instructor will tell you which testing group you are in. The homework deadlines can be found on the schedule page. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GIVE MAKEUP HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS OR EXTEND DEADLINES FOR INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS, and therefore, it is each student's responsibility to get the homework in before the deadline. The three lowest homework grades will be dropped at the end of the semester. It is recommended that you not wait until the very last few minutes before the deadline to submit your homework. Traffic on the server may be heavy at this time and the server may be slow. You will not be able to start doing the homework until you are in JExam. You will be put into JExam as soon as Drop-Add is complete.

You access your homework assignments through JExamStudent. You have essentially unlimited time to do your homework, and you may close an assignment after you have worked on it for a while and come back to it at a later time. You have three submissions for a homework assignment. All questions that are completely correct after the first submission are given full credit. Questions (or parts of questions) that are correct only after the second submission are given 75% credit. Questions (or parts of questions) that are correct only after the third submission are given 65% credit. Note that you can SAVE your homework without SUBMITTING it. Thus you can work on homework in several sessions without affecting the amount of credit. After you have submitted your homeowrk, only questions that are not completely correct will be available for you to work on. Parts of questions that are correct have a green box around them after you have submitted your work for the first time. Once the deadline for a homework has passed, the homework will be released and you can view your graded homework on JExamStudent.

You should view the homework as an aid for learning the material and preparing for the tests. If you use the homework wisely, it can be a real benefit. If you abuse it, you will most likely gain very little from it.
