MATH 1113 (Precalculus) Credit Tests

Credit for Exempted Math 1113

Students who place out of Math 1113 may earn college credit for the course by scoring 75% or better on a version of the final exam for Math 1113. The test can be taken only once. If a student scores below 75%, nothing is reported to the student's records.

Exam Schedule

Credit tests are given in the Math Lab, Room 324 of the Boyd Graduate Studies Research Center at scheduled sessions during the first few weeks of Fall and Spring semesters. Students may register for those scheduled sessions on a first come first served basis via email. The TENTATIVE Spring 2010 test dates are Monday January 25 and Tuesday January 26. To register for the 1113 credit test (after January 7), click here. Students may be assessed a nominal fee through their student accounts, should they choose to take the test (regardless of test score). If assessed, this fee will appear in their account before the end of the semester. The fee will be $20.

Eligibility

Credit in Math 1113 or enrollment in Math 1113 (or a higher level University mathematics course), Fall 09, for more than 30 days disqualifies a student from receiving exemption credit for Math 1113. This 30 days allows students time to register and take the test at the appointed times. For this reason, students need to register for the credit test upon their arrival at the University at the start of the semester.

Format

The credit test will be administered at the beginning of each semester. Exams are 2 hours long and given on the computer. Personal calculators are not allowed. There is a graphing desktop-calculator provided at the exam. Students intending to take the credit test are advised to practice using the software program prior to test taking. The test is delivered using WebAssign, and an account will be created for you after you register for the test. Practice assignments will be available to help you prepare yourself.

Preparation

The test consists of roughly 15 problems from throughout the course. The level of difficulty of the credit exam is similar to that of the final exam in the Math 1113 course. The syllabus for the course can be found below. The topics should be reviewed carefully before attempting the credit test. It is strongly recommended that students planning to take the Math 1113 Credit test become familiar with the format of the computer testing program (WebAssign) for the 1113 course.
