Information for Visitors
Flying to Athens
Flying into the Athens airport (AHN) is very convenient if you can use USAirways. However the schedule is limited and the only flights come from Charlotte, NC. You can rent a car (from Hertz only), arrange to be picked up, or call a taxi. Cabs are not regularly stationed at the airport. It is a 4.7 mile drive from the airport to the South Campus Parking Deck.
Flying to Atlanta
The Atlanta airport (ATL) is served by all major airlines, and is a hub for Delta and AirTran. There is a very good shuttle van service between the Atlanta airport and Athens, with stops at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education on campus and at several downtown hotels, run by AAA Airport Express. All major car rental companies have facilities at the airport. The total driving distance is about 80 miles. Here are driving directions from the Atlanta airport to the Mathematics Department.
Parking on Campus
The best place to park is the South Campus Parking Deck, adjacent to the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. See the last part of the driving directions for one route to get there; you can also enter the deck from Lumpkin Street. On the UGA Parking Services map the South Deck is the red building in the purple area marked S11. The Math Department is in the Boyd Grad Studies building, one block east of the South Deck. Our office manager, Gail Suggs, Room 453, can give you a voucher for a free day's parking in the deck.
