Clinton Stephenson
Position:
Software Engineer
Employer:
Northrop Grumman
Job description:
Develop code primarily in the field of operations and control for
Joint STARS project. Member of the build, integration, and tracker
teams. Webmaster for ICS-CLS Project.
Salary range:
51000
Job satisfaction:
Like any position, there are intangibles. I have earned second to
the lead in my group, hence I am able to select which projects I want
to work on. Software engineering has been rapidly changing. I have
been given some each week to research new developments. My present
position doesn’t allow me to develop very much with C++, JAVA, Rational
OOA/OOD products. I am hoping to move to another position in advanced
research that uses UNIX and the latest product development tools.
Suggestions for students:
Be prepared to move to an area with jobs. Avoid contract work if you
can. There was a time when contact workers made more money for the
rick, but this time has past. Mathematics opens many doors. However,
you should minor in another field, such as CS or physics.
Advisor/Student relationship:
Encourage more pure math students to take a couple of applied courses.
Internships:
Unfortunately, due to a required security clearance, the Integrated
Systems and Aerostructures Sector of Northrop Grumman is no longer
providing internships.
