MATH3000 Syllabus

Information for this course (homework assignments, study guides, etc.) will be communicated mostly through webct.uga.edu, so check your account regularly.

Exams

There will be three midterms (1/31, 2/28, 4/10) and a comprehensive final exam (5/1, 12-3 p.m.).

Homework

The homework will be assigned every Thursday and will be due next Thursday before class. It will consist of two parts:
  1. A web-based homework system called WebWork.
  2. The usual pencil and paper homework to be turned in class.
The login link for WebWork  is https://webwork.math.uga.edu/webwork2/Math3000_Alexeev_Spr08.  Your username is set to your UGA MyID (this is yourname in yourname@uga.edu).  Your WW password is your new 810 student number including dashes, with the last number skipped and formatted like this: 810-00-0000.  Your UGA password is not involved.

You may get a warning about the site's certificate; ignore it. If you used WebWork at UGA last year and have trouble logging in, you may need to delete the previous certificate. In Firefox, to to Tools > Options > Advanced > Encryption >View Certificates > Web Sites and delete the certificate for webwork.math.uga.edu (a new one will be created next time you log in).

Until a WebWork assignment is due, you can try the problems as many times as you like, and the system will tell you whether you have the right answer.  This lets you correct your work immediately.  Shortly after an assignment is due, answers will be posted.  You are welcome to work together on WebWork problems, but each student's problems will be slightly different, so copying others' answers will not work.

Grading policy

Make-up policy

No late homeworks will be accepted. However, two lowest homeworks will be dropped to allow for illnesses, family emergencies, etc.

For the exams, in case of a verified family emergency or illness, one exam may be replaced with the final exam. There will be no special make-up exams arranged.

Attendance policy

Students who miss five classes or more may be withdrawn with a WF.

Academic Honesty

All students are responsible for maintaining the highest standards of honesty and integrity in every phase of their academic careers. The penalties for academic dishonesty are severe and ignorance is not an acceptable defense. The UGA Academic Honesty Policy will be followed closely.
