Course Objective

To learn derivatives and how to apply them to solving problems and sketching graphs. We will generally follow the schedule that can be found in the Calendar on this web page, but of course deviations are possible.

Grading Policy

quizzes / homework 3 tests Final exam
15% 20% each 25%

Class Policies

The UGA Academic Honesty Policy will be followed closely. Four missed classes may result in a withdrawal with a WF. There will be no make-ups for missed quizzes and exams.

Homework and Quizzes

Homework will be assigned almost every day. We will discuss some of the problems on the days prior to the quiz days (the last 20-25 minutes of class) and one-three problems from current homework will be on the quiz. There will be 4 (four) quizzes. The lowest quiz score will be dropped, to provide a cushion for sick days, broken car days, family emergencies etc.

Make-up Policy

No make-up for quizzes. No make up for tests, but, in case of an excused and officially verified absence, the average of the other two tests will be counted instead of the missed test.

Calculators

TI-86 and below and comparable non-symbolic calculators may be used on quizzes and exams; but nothing more advanced.

Evaluations

All student evaluations will be done on-line this spring during the last two weeks of the semester. One (1) point will be added to the final average for a successful completion.
