NOTE: It will
be important to pay close attention to instructions given in class regarding
the testing system.
Attendance Policy: Students are allowed no more
than 5 absences including both excused and unexcused absences. On the
sixth absence a student may be withdrawn from the course with a grade of W or
WF (definitely WF after midpoint). Do not regard these 5 allowed absences as
"personal free days." These are only to be used in cases of illnesses
or family emergencies. In some cases, verification may be required.
Midpoint Policy:
Monday, October
9th is the midpoint of Fall Semester. Prior to
this date you may withdraw from the course with a `W'. Any student wishing to withdraw after this
date will be assigned a `WF', (this includes withdrawals due to lack of
attendance!).
Grading
Policy:
Tests 1-6: 60%……In Class:10%.......Jexam Homework Assignments:
5%……..Final Exam: 25%.
In-Class
Component
Come prepared each day. There will be daily homework
assignments and/or announced in-class quizzes.
There will also be a series of online homework assignments through Jexam.
These assignments will be announced several days ahead of their due date so
that students will have time to work on the problems and seek help if needed. The
lowest 5 in-class grades will be dropped, (these include zeros due to missed
work). The lowest 2 online homework grades will be dropped, (these include zeros
due to missed work).
Homework:
Homework will be assigned daily from the text. I
will make a point of discussing assigned problems at the beginning of class. If
you find you are having trouble completing the assigned exercises make
sure to come to office hours or get help from the regularly scheduled afternoon
help sessions. Remember, the
best way to keep up with this class is to be working on the material daily.
*****The Math
Department runs a study hall several afternoons a week. This is an excellent
place to study, as well as get help with homework problems! Stay tuned for days
and locations.
Miscellaneous:
You will need a calculator with exponential,
logarithmic, and trigonometric keys.
Any student who has not taken any of the tests by
the midpoint of the quarter will be withdrawn from the class.
