NOTE: It will
be important to pay close attention to instructions given in class regarding
the testing system.
Attendance Policy: Students are allowed no more
than 5 absences. This includes both
excused and unexcused absences. On the sixth absence a student may be
withdrawn from the course with a grade of W or WF (definitely WF after
midpoint). Do not regard these 5 allowed absences as "personal free
days." These are only to be used in cases of illnesses or family
emergencies. In some cases, verification may be required.
Midpoint Policy: Tuesday,
March 7th is the midpoint of Spring Semester. Prior to this date you may withdraw from the
course with a `W'. Any student wishing
to withdraw after this date will be assigned a `WF', (this includes withdrawals
due to lack of attendance!).
Grading
Policy:
Tests 1-6: 60%……Quizzes:10%.......Jexam Homework Assignments:
5%……..Final Exam: 25%.
In-Class
Component: Come prepared each day.
There will be a short in-class quiz at the beginning of each class. There will also be a series of 12 online Homework
Assignments through Jexam. These assignments will be announced several days
ahead of their due date so that students will have time to work on the problems
and seek help if needed. The lowest 5 quizzes and the lowest 3 homework grades
will be dropped, (these includes zeros due to missed work).
Homework: Homework will be assigned daily from the text. While
it is critical that you work on homework daily I will not collect these daily
assignments. I will however make a point of discussing assigned problems at the
beginning of class. If you find you are having trouble completing the assigned
exercises make sure to come to office hours or get help from the regularly
scheduled afternoon help sessions.
Remember, the best way to keep up with this class is to be working on
the material daily.
*****The Math
Department runs a study hall several afternoons a week. This is an excellent
place to study, as well as get help with homework problems! Stay tuned for days
and locations.
Miscellaneous: You will need a calculator with exponential,
logarithmic, and trigonometric keys.
Any student who has not taken any of the tests by
the midpoint of the quarter will be withdrawn from the class.
Academic
Honesty Policy : All academic work must meet the standards
contained in A Culture of Honesty. Students are responsible for informing
themselves about those standards before
performing any academic work.
