Course Description:
The calculus lab has been designed to encourage you to investigate mathematical problems in greater depth than is possible in a lecture course. You will work on projects and write reports on them with the aid of “maple”, a computer program for mathematics.
Materials:
“Maple” is available on EITS sites. You can find the EITS Computer Services Sites at http://www.eits.uga.edu/sites/ So, you don’t have to buy “maple”. Also, Students can find the needed materials on the web address http://www.math.uga.edu/calclab2200/ or http://www.math.uga.edu/calclab/

Course Grading:
Grades will be based on a student’s performance in the 7 projects and 2 quizzes. Each project will be worth 13 points, each quizzes will be worth 6 points. (Total=7*13+2*6=103)
A: 103-85; B: 84-75; C: 74-65; D: 64-50; F: 0-49
Attendance: Four (or more) unexcused absences will result in lowering one’s grade total by five points out of 103. Absence can be excused by showing the instructor a documentation or discussing with the instructor in advance. A student with 8 or more (excused or unexcused) absences will be withdrawn from the class at any time of the semester.
Withdrawal policy:
If a student withdraws from a lab, the student must withdraw the regular course. Students will initiate their own withdrawals on OASIS.
Project Report Preparation:
A student should follow the instructions, provided for each project. At each project, the name, the student ID # should be included at the very beginning. Then, a brief explanation presenting what the project will be about should be given. A student should also include explanations while writing his/her report, whenever necessary, rather than just showing the calculations done by Maple. Explanations should reveal the student’s understanding of what he/she is doing. At the end, following the brief summary of the report, collaboration and academic honesty statement should be copied to the student’s report and be signed by the student.
Collaboration and Academic Honesty: You are encouraged to work in groups on projects. You may obtain results as a group. However, the final write-up of your report must be your own. Plagiarism, among other things, is prohibited. Above all, UGA Academic Honesty Policy applies. See the web page:

Additional Information:
* Students will have opportunity to work on their project at “Open Labs”, where they can consult to a graduate T.A. for their questions.
* Lack of explanation and signature will result in lack of 5% +5% points for each report.
