Skills Test:                

·            The skills test is worth 5% of your grade.

·            The test is given on JEXAM in the computer lab at Boyd Graduate Studies Building rooms 208 & 324.

·            You have 75 minutes for the exam there are 20 questions.

·            The topics covered on the skills test can be found on the course website along with practice problems.

·            There will not be time to prepare for the skills test during class.  It is your responsibility to do the practice problems and prepare for the test.

 

Quizzes:

·        In class quizzes will be worth 5% of your grade.  Quizzes will be given approximately approximately weeklyonce a week on random days.

·        Questions will be taken directly from the practice tests or similar to homework problems.

·        There will be no makeup quizzes given.

·        Your lowest two quiz grades will be dropped.

 

Class Homework:

·        Homework will be work 5% of your grade.

·        Every day I will write homework problems on the board that correspond with the problems you will see on your tests.

·            Homework problems will be given at the end of class each period.

·            Approximately once every othera week on random days I will announce problems to be written up neatly and handed in. during then next class period.

·            Only the announced problems should be handed in.  Neatness counts.  If I can’t read it, its wrong.

·        Homework must be handed in at the beginning of class.  Late homework or homework handed in places other than class will not be accepted.


 

Tests:                         

·        There are 6 section tests in this class each worth 10% for a total of 60%. 

·        Tests are given on the computer on the program JEXAM in the computer lab at Boyd Graduate Studies Building Rooms 3208 & 324. 

·        You have 75 minutes for each of the section tests.  There are 12 questions on each test.

·        The only calculator allowed in the section exams is the TI 30. 

·        You must register for an exam time on the exam date 1-5 days before the test (see the course website for instructions).  Exams are scheduled first come, first served. 

·        If your final exam score is higher than one of your regular test scores, the final score will replace that test score.

·        No makeup tests will be given.


 

 

Online Homework:

·        Online homework is worth 5% of your grade

·        Online homework is done on Jexam

·        There will be 11 online homework assignments

·        Deadlines for handing in exams online homework can be found on the course website under the heading of homework and will be announced in class.

·        Absolutely no late homework will be accepted.

 

Final Exam:

·        The final exam is worth 250% of your grade

·        You will have 3 hours for the final exam.  There are 25 questions on the final exam.

·        The sign up period for the final exam is November 14 – November 18April 18 – April 21.  The exam is scheduled first come, first serve.

 

Attendance:                You are strongly encouraged to attend every class.  The official policy for MATH 1113 classes is as follows:  Students are allowed no more that 5 4 absences both excused and unexcused.  On the sixth absence the student may be withdrawn from the course with a grade of W or WF (definitely WF after the drop date).  Do not regard these 5 4 allowed absences as “personal free days.”  They are only to be used on the cases of illness or family emergencies.  In some cases verification may be required.

 

Academic Honesty:    All students are responsible for maintaining the highest standards of honesty and integrity in every phase of their academic careers. The penalties for academic dishonesty are severe and ignorance is not an acceptable defense.

 

Important:                  All students should check the course website regularly to see new announcements and check deadlines for online homework assignments.


 

How to Succeed:       

·        Do your homework.Practice! Practice! Practice JExam!

·        Do your homework.

·        Make sure to do the practice exams a couple days before the exam.

·        Try to do the practice exam without looking at your notes or book.

·        Review the types of problems that you find difficult.

·        Do not wait until the last minute to do the online homework.

·        If you don’t understand a problem, get some help.  See the math department website for resources.
