Textbook

The required text is Elementary Linear Algebra,  by Larson/ Edwards/ Falvo ,Fifth Edition,  published by Houghton Miflin, 2004.

 

 

Syllabus  Chapters 1-5, and 7 of the text. (Systems of  linear equations, Matrix Algebra, Vector Spaces, Projections and Orthogonality, Determinants, Eigenvalues and eigenvectors). If there is time we may do some of chapter 6, Linear Transformations.

 

Tests, homework, and grading

There will be 3 tests and a final exam. Homework will be assigned every day but only some of it will be collected for grading.

Each term test counts for 15%. The homework counts for 25% of the grade. The final counts for 30% of the grade. If it is to your advantage, your lowest test grade will be dropped and replaced by the grade on your final.
