The text is Calculus: early transcendentals version, 6th ed. by Edwards and Penney. We plan to cover the following sections:
2.1--2.4
3.1--3.9
4.1--4.7
5.1--5.2

I have no formal attendance requirement: however, as in any mathematics course, it is essential that you keep pace with the class! Every topic builds on the previous ones.

Math 2200L (the calculus lab) is required for all students in this course! If you withdraw from the lab then you must withdraw from this course as well (On the other hand you may continue in the lab if you wish if you withdraw from the course). If you have previously completed 2200L with a passing grade then you are exempt from the lab this semester.

There will be four hour tests and a final examination. In addition homework will be assigned and due every week there is no test, and there may be an occasional quiz. You are encouraged to work with others on your homework, but you must write up your solutions yourself. Some class periods may be given over to student presentations of homework problems. The first hour test is tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 12.

Simple calculators will be allowed during all tests and in the final exam, but graphing calculators will be forbidden.

The course midpoint (final date for withdrawals with a grade of W) is Tuesday, October 14. The final exam will be given Friday, December 12, 2003, 8:00 - 11:00 am in 209 Forestry.

Your final course grade will be based on the formula:
Hour tests 40%
Final exam 30%
Homework and quizzes 15%
Participation and effort 15%

Finally, as goes without saying:
All students are responsible for maintaining the highest standards of honesty and integrity in every phase of their academic careers. The penalties for academic dishonesty are severe and ignorance is not an acceptable defense.
