Course Objectives:       The objective of this course is to study functions, their properties and graphs. Specifically highlighted are linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions.

Web Sites:                   Access the MAT 1113 Department web site at http://www.math.uga.edu/1113/1113home.htm for up-to-date course information and the testing schedule. Note that we are in testing group 4. Please print the syllabus (test information) document found on this site.

A lot of communication concerning this course will be done through WebCT when you log in to http://webct.uga.edu. At that site you will find your grades, test average, quiz average, calendar with dates of the exams, mail, this syllabus, and more.

Grading:                      Skills Test                                              5%

                                    Test 1 - 6:                                             60% (10% each)

                                    In-Class Quizzes and Homework:            10%

                                    On-line Homework:                                   5%

                                    Comprehensive final:                               20%

The lowest score on tests 1 - 6 will be replaced by the final exam score (if the final exam score is higher). In addition, your lowest 25% in-class quiz and homework scores will be dropped; your lowest 25% on-line homework scores will be dropped.

Note that 90 – 100 = A, 80 – 89 = B, 70 – 79 = C, 60 – 69 = D, below 60 = F.

Attendance:                 You are allowed no more than five absences, including both excused and unexcused absences. On the sixth absence, I have the option to withdraw you from the course with either a W or a WF (definitely WF after midpoint). Do not regard these five absences as “personal free days.” These are only to be used in cases of illness or family emergencies. In some cases, verification may be required.

Miscellaneous:             I do not give make-up quizzes or homework. Tests can be made up with permission in case of an excused and officially verified reason.

Academic Honesty Policy:

All students are responsible for maintaining the highest standards of honesty and      integrity in every phase of their academic careers. The penalties for academic dishonesty are severe, and ignorance is not an acceptable defense. Please read the Culture of Honesty disclosure found at http://www.uga.edu/ovpi/academic_honesty/culture_honesty.htm.

Additional Info:            You have access to Practice Tests by downloading the JExam software. There is a link at http://exams.uga.edu/~jmartin/JExamStudent/install/install.htm to download the software. You will only need to download it once. There is no Practice Test for the Skills Test.

You will have to sign up (on-line) for a session to take the tests at http://exams.uga.edu/~jmartin/login.html. The sessions start promptly at the time stated. If you show up late, you will lose the time missed. All tests are given in either room #324 or #308 in Boyd (GSRC).
