Grading Policy

1.Grades will be based on a student’s performance in the 6 projects: 80% of the course grade, and a few quizzes (may have pop quizzes): 20% of course grade. The final score is (sum of 6 projects*8/6 + points of quizzes)/100. The score needed to get the various grades are: A: 90%-100% B: 80%-90%; C: 70%-80%; D: 60%-70%; F: 50-60%.

2.10 points are possible for each project. 2 points will be taken off if no introduction or bad report style. If the project is later more than 4 days of the due day, this project will be zero points. Later project or no signature project will be taken at least 4 points off, if both 6 points off.

3. There are 2 or 3 quizzes. NO make-up quiz. Quizzes will be chosen from your projects with some changes.

4.You’re supposed to hand in all projects, and every missing project incurs one letter lower in the final grade.

Attendance policy

A student, who misses two or more classes that (s)he does not make up, will have the final grade lowered by one letter. But if you miss five or more classes, I’ll keep the right to withdraw from this course and give your final grade W, F or WF no matter how many make-ups. You’re supposed to work on your project at least 40 minutes in every class, otherwise you’re be counted as absence.

Makeup Policy

Go to other instructor’s lab class, and let the instructor give a statement with time and signature to show you really do your project for at least 40 minutes. You must turn the statement to me in next coming week after you miss your class.

Withdrawal policy

If a student withdraws from a lab, the student must withdraw from the regular course-math2210, but you can keep the lab and withdraw the regular course. It’s the students’ responsibility to initiate their own withdrawals on OASIS.

Additional information

1.Instructor of this lab is not supposed to teach you how to work problems and the projects, but will be available to help you with Maple as you work. You are encouraged to work in groups on projects. You may obtain results as a group. However, the final write-up of your report must be your own. Each student must sign her/his report after the academic honesty statement at the end of the report, if not, you get at least 4 points off. All students are responsible for maintaining the highest standards of honesty and integrity in every phase of their academic careers. The penalties for academic dishonesty are severe and ignorance is not an acceptable defense. http://www.uga.edu/ovpi/academic_honesty/culture_honesty.htm

2. There will be open lab, you will get notice when there are open labs, you can work on your projects in that room, and there would be somebody to whom you can relate for help.

3. You have no chance to redo your project.

4. This course syllabus provides a general plan for the course; deviation may be necessary.

5.Check WebCT as often as possible, at least once a week. If there 's any dispute about your grade or attendance, please consult me ASAP.  No adjustment will be made toward your grade after one week of the incident.
