Title: Koszul duality of operads

Abstract:

I will try to give an introduction to the Koszul duality theory for operads due to Ginzburg and Kapranov. This will include an introduction to operads, with focus on those that relate to commutative and Lie algebras. I'll provide motivation for this kind of duality from various homology theories, as well as from rational homotopy theory. We'll then look at some interesting examples, including the commutative and Lie operads, as well as operads that arise from moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces.

Title: Koszul duality of operads II

Abstract:

Continuing from last time, I'll introduce the dual of a quadratic operad and describe the duality between differential graded algebras for Koszul dual operads. I'll then try to spend some time looking at examples, including the Lie/commutative duality as well as operads that arise from configuration spaces and moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces. I'll also discuss recent efforts to extend Koszul duality to topological operads and indicate how this might be used to generalize Quillen's models for rational homotopy theory.
