WeBWorK Homework System

The WeBWorK course is at https://webwork.math.uga.edu/webwork2/Math2200_Boe_Spr09/. When you connect to the site you may get a warning about the security certificate authority not being recognized. Don't worry, the site is secure -- just agree to accept the certificate.

Log in using your UGA myID as Username, and also as your Password (not your myID password!). The first time you log in, please change your password, by clicking on Password/Email in the left column. You may also change your e-mail address if you want.

You should first work through the PracticeSet, which introduces you to the WeBWorK system and how to enter answers. Try to do this as soon as possible, so you can ask questions in class or by e-mail to work out the kinks before your first real assignment is due. Your scores on the PracticeSet will not count toward your homework grade.

Then you can begin the first homework set. Note the due date and time -- only problems that you have completed by that time will count. (If you think you deserve an extension, you must arrange it before the original due date.) It's a good idea to download and print a hardcopy of each problem set, so you can work out your answers on paper. Some browsers have problems displaying the small math screen fonts WeBWorK uses; if you think this is happening, try changing the Display Options from images to jsMath or asciimath, at the very bottom of the left column.

Make sure you click Submit Answers when you are finished with a problem. The Preview Answers button lets you see how the system is going to interpret what you have typed, and is very useful for avoiding input syntax errors. If you think your answer is right but WeBWorK says it's wrong, use the Preview Answers function and check your input very carefully before contacting me. There is (usually) no penalty for trying a problem as many times as you want, and you can still change your answer even after clicking Submit Answers. On the other hand, you won't learn much by repeated guessing, so if the system tells you your answer is wrong, try to figure out why. Remember to Logout when you're finished.

One aspect of WeBWorK that may take some getting used to is that your answer is either right or wrong (although many versions of the right answer will be accepted). The computer will not give you partial credit if you make (say) a sign error early in the problem, even if you do everything else right. Some problems are divided into several parts, and you can get credit for each part you get right, even if you don't solve the whole problem. Get in the habit of being careful!

Also note, you can always do any of the WeBWorK sets (even after the due date) as practice for the tests and final exam. Even if you get an answer wrong that you previously got right, your score for that assignment won't be decreased.

Feel free to click the Email Instructor button on any WeBWorK page, especially if you encounter any errors. This is better than emailing me directly, because I will get a link to your particular problem (each student has different versions of the problems), and what you were doing in WeBWorK when you got stuck or encountered an error.
