Linear Algebra Review

Read the beginning of section 1 of chapter 5 of Shifrin, Abstract Algebra, pages 150-153.

Work problems 1-10 in section 5.1, pages 155-156. (Don't hand these in.)

On Tuesday, December 2, and Thursday, December 4, we'll discuss sections 5.1 and 5.2, field extensions and ruler and compass constructions. This is a nice application of linear algebra to field theory.
