Notes:

(3.3.10) and (3.4.2) were on problem set 11 (which wasn't turned in).

The background for problem (5.5.2) is explained on page 235. The little circle notation (with x or y subscript) just means the usual dot product in R³. This notation was introduced in section 5.4 (p. 227) to study surfaces that are not in R³, but this generality is not needed here.
