Personal

Welcome to my webpage.  I am currently a Ph.D. student in Mathematics at the University of Georgia.  My research interests include (but are not limited to) differential geometry, elementary number theory, and mathematics education.  As a graduate teaching assistant here at the University, in addition to taking courses, I teach a few courses, grade papers for various courses, proctor open MAPLE lab, and proctor the departmental study hall.

Classes Taught at UGA

For each course I have taught here at UGA, the syllabi are online. To see the departmental pages for each of the following courses, click on the course name. To see my syllabi, class notes, etc., for each of the courses, click on the call number. To see end-of-course evaluations, click here.

Favorite Links

These are a few of my favorite math-related links:

*      American Mathematical Society

Here, you can find the Notices and other mathematical fun.

*      Eric Weisstein's World of Mathematics

Weisstein’s mathematics encyclopedia is a must-use for quick math references.  If you haven’t already checked out World of Math, you need to do so.  If you’re a math nerd like me, you’ll spend hours there!

*      Equinox Empires

So, my best friend from undergrad created his own business.  On his site, you’ll find video games (including a great elementary math education game called Math with Montague), some of his literary works, and some other awesome links.  Check it out!  (And tell him I sent you!)

*      GOOGLE

Although Google is not necessarily a math link, there’s a lot of free downloadable math books and lecture notes out there that are quite helpful and easy to find by “googling” your subject.

*      JSTOR

JSTOR is an archive of scholarly journals, including quite a few from the math field.  If you need older journal references, this is the place to get them.

*      MacTutor History of Mathematics Archive (St. Andrew's)

Need a little information on Gauss?  How about Galois?  This is the reference for non-definition math needs!

*      Mathematics Association of America

If the Notices aren’t to your taste, try the Monthly and other MAA stuff.

*      TeXShop for MacIntosh or MikTeX for Windows

TeX, a scientific document processor, makes writing math a lot easier, especially when you’re dealing with formulae, equations, and symbols typically not found in normal word processing programs.  Luckily for all of us, TeX is also a free download from the above sites.  So give it a shot!

Personal Interests

*      Camping, hiking, and all that fun outdoorsy stuff…

Once a Boy Scout, always a Boy Scout, I guess.

*      Chess

I’m not that good, and it’s been a while, but I still like to play.  I also want to learn how to play the game Go.

*      Four Star Summer Camps

     This is where I’ve worked for the past six summers, both as a math teacher and as the head resident advisor.

* Religious Studies

My own faith aside, I’m interested in the philosophies of all organized (and disorganized!) religions, including each of the denominations of Christianity.  I’ll bypass Ben Franklin, though, and go ahead and talk about religion in public!

*      Theatre

Yes, the British way of spelling it… I’m that kind of theatre person!
