JExam Download: http://exams.uga.edu/~jmartin/JExamStudent/install/install.htm

Pre-requisite:    This is usually the first math class students take in UGA, so the background of students could be highly variated. Nonetheless,  students are expected to have solid understanding of arithmetics, especially in fractions and algebra.

Objectives:    This is a fast paced course meant to prepare students for Calculus class. Although 90% of the course grade is determined by the JExam, tackling JExam problems is NOT the main purpose of this course. Instead, Understanding the concept and idea of the material will be our focus. Therefore, the methods used in this course may not be the fastest way to solve the problems but they help students to understand the material.

Expectation:            (1) Do practice tests everyday because most of the questions in tests
and homeworks are similar to those in Practice tests.
                                 (2) Get use to JExam ASAP to avoid failing test 1.
                                 (3) Come to every class and do the suggested problems after every class.
                                 (4) Instead of memorizing the material and JExam problems, understand them.
                                 (5) Log on to your WebCT account at least once a day and post questions there.
                                 (6) Last but not least, work hard !!! The intensity and difficulty of this class
may be out of your expectation.

Grading:    Homework: 5%, Quizzes: 10%, Tests: 60%, Final exam: 25%
        A   92-100    A- 89-91    B+ 87-88    B 82-86    B- 79-81

The lowest test score will be replaced by the final exam score provided the final exam score is higher than the lowest test score. Adjustment of test or homework scores is possible only in the case that the student entered the correct answer and the computer did not grade it correctly. Quizzes will be given with or without short notice and no make up quizzes will be given.

Attendance Policy:    Students are allowed for no more than FIVE absences including both excused and unexcused absences. On the Sixth absence, a student may be withdrawn from the class with a grade W or WF (definitely WF after midpoint).Do not regard these FIVE absences as personal free days. These are only to be used in cases of illnesses or family emergencies. In some cases, verification may be required. Attendance is required on each test day, therefore students should not schedule their tests on class meeting time.  The material for the succeeding test will be started on each test day.

Academic Honesty:    All students are responsible for maintaining the highest standards of honesty and integrity in every phase of their academic careers. The penalties for academic dishonesty are severe and ignorance is not an acceptance reason. Students should pay particular attention to sections 5 and 7 of the academic honesty statement at
