Homework:
Short WebWork assignments will be posted at the end of every class and will be due before the class lecture.

The WebWork link is https://webwork.math.uga.edu/webwork2/Math2500_Lyall_F09.

Your username is your UGA MyID (that is, everything before the @ symbol in your email address) and your initial
password is set to your 810 student number in the format 810-00-0000; your UGA password is not involved.

Your account should already be working.  Email me if you have any trouble accessing it.

Until a WebWork assignment is due, you can try the problems as many times as you like, and the system will tell you whether you have the right answer.
This lets you correct your work immediately.  Shortly after an assignment is due, answers will be posted.
You are welcome to work together on WebWork problems, but each student's problems will be slightly different, so copying others' answers will not work.

Quizzes: There will be a short quiz on most Fridays.
Quiz problems will be very similar (if not identical) to those recommended for practice (see below).
No make up quizzes will be given!
Exams: There will be three in-class "midterm" exams and (of course) a final exam.  ** dates subject to change**

Exam 1: Friday 25th of September         (after chapters 11 & 12) Exam 1
Exam 1 Practice Questions
Exam 2: Wednesday 28th of October      (after chapter 13)
Exam 2 Exam 2 Practice Questions
Exam 3: Friday 4th of December              (after chapter 14) Exam 3 Exam 3 Practice Questions
Final Exam:
Wednesday 16th of December 08:00-11:00

Grading: Homework/Quizzes: 10%
Tests: 60% (20% each)
Final: 30%

For full credit, full work must always be shown. Any absence on a test day will result in a test grade of 0. It will be possible to make up for a missed test only if documented justification for the absence is provided.
Calculators:
You may use calculators on the homework. However, you may not use calculators on any test or quiz unless specifically stated otherwise.
Free Tutoring:
Division of Academic Enhancement offers free tutoring in milledge hall, MLC, Residence Halls, and online.
For more information either visit Milledge Hall or the DAE web site www.uga.edu/dae

WP/WF policy: The official attendance policy of the university states:
Students are expected to attend classes regularly. A student who incurs an excessive number of absences may be withdrawn from a class at the discretion of the professor (http://bulletin.uga.edu/bulletin/ind/attendance.html)

In this class, we interpret "excessive" to mean four or more unexcused absences. A student withdrawing after the first exam will receive a WF unless he/she has a marginally passing (D) average in the class (taking into account all relevant data: homework/quiz grades, exams, attendance).

Academic Honesty: As a University of Georgia student, you have agreed to abide by the University’s academic honesty policy, “A Culture of Honesty,” and the Student Honor Code. All academic work must meet the standards described in “A Culture of Honesty” found at: www.uga.edu/honesty. Lack of knowledge of the academic honesty policy is not a reasonable explanation for a violation. Questions related to course assignments and the academic honesty policy should be directed to the instructor.

The course syllabus is a general plan for the course; deviations announced to the class by the instructor may be necessary
