Week 3:

Due Tuesday, January 27: Read section 7.3 and do the exercises. Hand in: problem 10 on page 41, 42 and problem 2 on page 51, 52.

By the way: the winter issue of American Educator has some interesting articles on behavior management and an article about the importance of units.

Due Thursday, January 29: Read section 7.4 and do the exercises. Hand in: problem 1 on page 57. Also hand in: (a) Use a ruler and compass to help you draw a triangle that has one side of length 4 inches, one side of length 3.5 inches, and one side of length 5 inches. Briefly describe your method. (b) Explain why the method you described in part (a) must produce a triangle having the required side lengths.

Week 4:

Due Tuesday, February 3: Read section 7.5 and do the exercises. Review the problems for the quiz (described below) and be prepared to ask questions about them in class. Hand in: problems 4 and 5 on page 70.

Due Thursday, February 5: Quiz. Quiz problems will be similar to problems 1 - 25 in the chapter 7 problem list in addition to the following problems: exercise 5, page 25 (same as class activity 7L), exercise 2, page 55 (see activity 7U) and: use the parallel postulate to explain why the sum of the angles in a triangle must always be 180 degrees (see activity 7T). MATH 7030 students only: project proposals due.
