Week 3:

Due Tuesday, September 4 : Read section 3.3 and do the practice problems (and check your answers). Hand in: Please type your solutions to these problems (of course you may put pictures and mathematical equations/expressions in by hand). Problems 2, 4, 13 on pages 74 - 76 and problem 20 on page 95.

Due Thursday, September 6 : QUIZ on chapter 2. Expect problems that are similar to (but not identical to) problems that were assigned (to be handed in or not) or done in class. I won't expect you to know the different types of decimal comparison misconceptions. Read section 3.4 and do the practice problems (and check your answers).

Week 4:

Due Tuesday, September 11: Read section 3.5 and do the practice problems (and check your answers). Read the chapter 3 summary and study items. Hand in: Please type your solutions to these problems (of course you may put pictures and mathematical equations/expressions in by hand). Problem 8 on page 93, problems 4, 17 on pages 106, 107, and problem 3 on page 121.

Due Thursday, September 13: Do but don't hand in: finish the portions of Class Activities 3S, 3T, 3U, 3V, and 3W that we did not discuss in class. Hand in: Please type your solutions to these problems (of course you may put pictures and mathematical equations/expressions in by hand). Redo problem 2 on page 74 and problem 20 on page 95. Be sure to refer to and use the definition of fraction in problem 2. Take this opportunity to think carefully about the ideas involved in these problems. Use writing to help you think, and then revise your writing to communicate the ideas clearly.
