Week 3:

Due Monday, September 3: Holiday, no class

Due Wednesday, September 5: (to be scored) Hand in section 1.1 problem # 6, page 19, and section 1.3 problem # 2, page 49. Please review the grading criteria for scored assignments before writing up your work.

Due Friday, September 7: Read section 1.4 and do all the exercises.

Week 4:

Due Monday, September 10: (to be checked) Hand in section 1.4 problem # 1 on page 58. Also hand in the following "write to learn" assignment, in which you will use writing as a way to deepen your understanding. Write 1 - 3 pages on your thoughts or questions about the Pythagorean theorem. You may wish to address such topics as: What does the Pythagorean theorem mean? Do I understand the proof of the Pythagorean theorem that we worked on in class? What are the fundamental ideas that arise in the proof of the Pythagorean theorem? Regardless of what aspect you choose to write about, your writing must show development in your thinking to receive a check.

Due Friday, September 14: (to be scored) Hand in section 1.5 problems # 1, 4 pages 71 - 73. Hand in Monday's assignment if you have not done so already.
