Tentative schedule and talk titles
There will be several one-hour talks per day, starting at 9:30 am on Wednesday, July 12. The talks will be over by noon on Sunday, July 16. There will be coffee, tea, juice and bagels at 9:00 am each day in room 409 of the Boyd Graduate Studies Research Center. All talks will be in Room 323 of this building. (See the campus map.) The Mathematics Department office is room 452, and the phone is 706-542-2211.
1) All major airlines have flights into Atlanta. The van service AAA Athens/Atlanta Airport Express (800-354-7874) can provide the 90 minute trip to Athens for $30 one way. You'll need to contact AAA to make a reservation. Please consult the AAA schedule.
2) The only airline that has flights into Athens is US Airways (800-428-4322), which flies to Athens from Charlotte. There are three flights a day from Charlotte to Athens, and there are many flights to Charlotte from the Northeast. The Athens airport is just a couple of miles from town, and there is taxi service from the airport. (Someone from the math department may be able to pick you up at the Athens airport.)
3) One can often find great airline deals to/from Atlanta on Clark Howard's site: check out the Clark Howard site for more details.
We recommend that you stay at the Downtowner Motor Inn (it's walking distance to math department). We have reserved several rooms for the conference. Singles are $36/night, doubles are $44/night. What the Downtowner lacks in charm it makes up for in price. "Good enough for us", as several generations of topologists will readily testify. Just call 706-549-2626 and make your reservation now.
If you'd like to share a double room, but need a roommate, let us know, and we'll try to help.
There will be a canoe trip Friday afternoon, so bring a bathing suit. Don't find yourself the object of the time-honored tradition Dunk the Math Nerd. You can expect warm weather in Georgia in July.
You don't have to register, and there is no registration fee. However, if you plan on coming, it would help if you let us know ahead of time.
Some money may be available for graduate students. To apply for support, please contact us. Please give us the following information. What is your subject of study in graduate school? If it is not topology, what is your interest in topology? When do you expect to get the Ph.D. degree? Who is your faculty adviser?
