Textbook
T. Shifrin, Abstract Algebra: A Geometric Approach, Prentice Hall, 1996. An up-to-date list of typos can be found at www.math.uga.edu/~shifrin/Typos.html.

Prerequisites
Math 3000 and Math 3200 with a grade of C or better.

Homework
Homework will be collected weekly and graded. Although you are encouraged to discuss the problems with other students, you must write your own solutions, with no assistance. Many of the assigned problems require proofs or explanations. Use clear language and correct grammar in your submitted work. In addition to the assigned problems, extra challenge problems will be given on a regular basis. Undergraduate students are encouraged to work on these challenge problems; graduate students must turn in at least one challenge problem, in addition to the other assigned problems, each week.

Grading
Your grade will be based on homework (30%), three one-hour exams (35%), and a comprehensive final exam (35%).

Missed work
Late homeworks will not be accepted, and there are no makeup exams.
