Textbook University Calculus,
by Hass, Weir, and Thomas.
Contents This course is a continuation of Math 2250. We will cover almost all of Chapters 6, 7, 8, and 10 of the textbook, with some additions, omissions, and reorganizations.
Grading Graded work will include a final exam, four in-class exams, and weekly quizzes. Each of the four in-class exams will be announced at least one week before it is given. The first quiz will be given on Tuesday January 23. Thereafter, quizzes will be given on Tuesday of every week in which an exam is not given. Homework will not be collected and hence not graded. However, students are expected to do the assigned problems as they are assigned. The final grade will be calculated using the following weights: quizzes 25%; in-class exams 50%; final exam 25%. Percentages of at least 90, 80, 70, 60 guarantee grades of at least A-, B-, C-, D- respectively. The lowest two quiz scores will be dropped.
Missed work There will be no make-up tests or quizzes. If you miss one of the four tests for a legitimate reason, your grade will be determined by the remaining tests and the final exam. A test missed for no reason will be counted as a score of 0 points.
Attendance It is your responsibility to know what happens in class. The best way to fulfill this obligation is to come to every class meeting unless you are too ill to attend. Much of the time in class will be spent elaborating on text material, reviewing previous material and explaining concepts in several different ways. It is important that you are present and attentive at every class meeting.
Calculators and Computers Use of calculators and/or computers is permitted when doing homework problems. They will NOT be allowed on quizzes, tests, or the final exam.
