TEXTBOOK: An Exploratory Course in Algebra for Middle School Teachers, Elliot Gootman, 2002, available from Julie McEver, the undergraduate coordinator in the math department (4th floor of Boyd), for $10.00 cash or check.
CONTENT OF THE COURSE: Relationships between quantities and the interpretation of such relationships numerically, graphically, algebraically, and functionally. Emphasis on problem solving and applications, connections with geometry, arithmetic and data analysis, and math competitions such as Mathcounts. (Reprinted from the UGA catalog).
UNDERGRADUATE PREREQUISITE: MATH 2200 and MATH 5020/7020 and MATH 5030/7030.
ASSESSMENT OF GRADES, DATES OF EXAMS:
45%: Three midterm exams (15% each):
Monday, September 16th
Monday, October 21st
Monday, November 25th.
25%: Final exam: Wednesday, December 11th, 12 pm – 3 pm.
20%: Homework and other work outside of class.
10 %: Class Participation.
