TEXTBOOK: An Exploratory Course in Algebra for Middle School Teachers, Elliot Gootman, 2002, available from Julie McEver, the undergraduate coordinator in the math department (4^th floor of Boyd), for $10.00 cash or check.

CONTENT OF THE COURSE: Relationships between quantities and the interpretation of such relationships numerically, graphically, algebraically, and functionally. Emphasis on problem solving and applications, connections with geometry, arithmetic and data analysis, and math competitions such as Mathcounts. (Reprinted from the UGA catalog).

UNDERGRADUATE PREREQUISITE: MATH 2200 and MATH 5020/7020 and MATH 5030/7030.

45%: Three midterm exams (15% each):

25%: Final exam: Wednesday, December 11^th, 12 pm – 3 pm.

20%: Homework and other work outside of class.

10 %: Class Participation.
